75 Families in Santa Isabel Receive New Homes in Colón

What Happened

Seventy-five families in the district of Santa Isabel, in Colón province’s Costa Arriba, received the certificates and keys to their new homes from the Ministry of Housing and Territorial Planning. The delivery marks the end of years of waiting for residents who had faced serious housing hardship.

The homes were handed over during a ceremony in Santa Isabel led by Housing Minister Jaime A. Jované C., along with Vice Minister of Territorial Planning Frank Osorio and acting Housing Vice Minister Alcibiades Pinzón. The project is part of a broader effort to improve living conditions in coastal communities of Colón.

Housing Built for Families in Need

The new homes were designed for families that had spent more than 15 years in difficult conditions. Some had been renting, while others were living in houses with dirt floors and improvised walls and roofs made of wood and old zinc.

Each home includes two bedrooms, a living-dining area, a kitchen, and a hygienic bathroom, along with basic electricity and potable water services. The housing solution is intended to give beneficiaries a safer and more dignified place to live after years without access to adequate financing or stable housing.

Community Impact in Costa Arriba

The social works are expected to benefit about 400 people across the corregimientos of Santa Isabel, Palmira, and Nombre de Dios. Officials said the delivery is part of a wider commitment to strengthen communities and support families that have long faced housing insecurity in Colón.

During the event, Jované said the effort reflects a broader push toward social justice and a better quality of life for Panamanians who need safe and adequate housing. He also said the government will continue working to recover delayed and abandoned projects and move ahead with new works.

Government Visit and Investment

After the ceremony, the minister and his team toured the library, an infoplaza, and the school in Santa Isabel. He also spoke with mothers in the community to hear more directly about local needs.

The investment for this housing delivery in Colón is estimated at about 1.875 million balboas. The event was attended by Santa Isabel representative Siria de Córdoba and district vice mayor Hernán Espino.

The housing delivery adds to ongoing public efforts to improve living standards in Panama’s Caribbean coastal communities, where access to decent housing remains a key concern for many families.
