What Happened
Samy and Sandra Sandoval unveiled the official launch of their Rebeldía Tour with a live performance built around immersive sound technology, marking a bold new presentation for Panama’s typical music scene.
The showcase mixed songs centered on defiance and empowerment with a three-dimensional audio experience designed to let the audience hear sound from every direction, including above, behind, and below.
According to Samy Sandoval, the setup used a 9.2.4 configuration: nine speakers positioned around the audience, four mounted overhead, and two bass sections that helped create a surrounding sound field.
A First for Regional Music
Sandoval said the concept had been used in Europe and in venues such as Las Vegas and New York theaters, but he described the presentation as the first of its kind in Latin America for regional or typical music.
During the Thursday, April 9 presentation, Samy stepped off the stage and played accordion while moving through the venue so the audience could experience the sound from different locations. Sandra later did the same, walking with a microphone and performing songs with a stronger message of attitude and self-respect.
What the Tour Will Feature
The new tour follows the success of Noche de Despecho, which ended with a historic sellout at Plaza Figali. Rebeldía Tour is set to take a different direction, with a more direct and confrontational tone reflected in songs such as “Lo que no da, se deja,” “A mí se me respeta,” “Mujer de nadie” and “Gallina fina.”
Samy said the idea came from a personal interest in new audio technologies. He had seen similar concepts in films and recordings, but wanted to explore how they could work in a live setting for his own audience.
The repertory will include more than 40 songs, combining classics and major hits from the duo’s career while keeping the identity that has made them one of the most recognizable acts in Panamanian typical music.
Next Stops in Panama
The tour will travel through several provinces of Panama, with dates to be announced later. The launch also came on the eve of Sandra Sandoval’s 56th birthday, which she marked with a reflective message about gratitude, positive habits, and personal growth.
She also invited fans to see her at Sandra Fest at Westland Mall on Saturday, adding another public appearance to a weekend already shaped by the new tour announcement.
