Panama Claims the Title at Juan Demóstenes Arosemena Stadium

Panama won the gold medal in the baseball final of the 2026 South American Youth Games with a 2-0 victory over Colombia at Juan Demóstenes Arosemena stadium. The home side backed up strong pitching with timely power at the plate to finish the tournament with the championship.

Abel Rodriguez delivered the kind of outing that decides finals, throwing seven complete innings and allowing only one hit while striking out six. His control and composure kept Colombia off balance throughout the game and gave Panama a steady foundation to protect its early lead.

Aranda Delivers the Key Swing

Panama’s offense did its damage in the bottom of the third inning, when Luis Aranda launched a two-run home run to put the team on the scoreboard. The blast proved to be the difference in a tight final, with Panama maintaining the advantage the rest of the way.

Aranda, who was named MVP of the previous youth championship, finished the game 2-for-1 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Jesús Arosemena also contributed at the plate, going 2-for-3 as Panama kept pressure on the Colombian defense.

A Perfect Tournament Run

Panama completed the competition with a perfect 6-0 record. The team had already beaten Colombia 10-2 in the penultimate round of the regular season and reached the final after defeating Brazil 6-3 on Friday. In the championship game, Panama finished the job with a sharp 4-6-3 double play to close out the victory.

Coach Adolfo Rivera said the team stayed patient and understood the different demands of a final after running undefeated through the regular round. The gold medal adds another high point for Panama’s youth baseball program, which continues to produce competitive teams on the regional stage.

Bronze Medal and Youth Baseball’s Wider Stage

Curaçao won the bronze medal after a 14-0 win over Brazil. Beyond the international competition, youth baseball remains a major part of Panama’s sports calendar, with tournaments giving young players a chance to develop while families and communities turn out in support.

The championship result also comes as the National Pre-Infant Little League Baseball Tournament has moved into its final stage, with semifinal winners advancing to a best-of-three title series. Together, these events reflect the depth of Panama’s baseball pipeline and the sport’s importance at every level of the country’s youth system.
