What Happened
The National Police reported 551 arrests across Panama over the last 72 hours as part of its weekend security operations nationwide. Of those detentions, 338 were carried out by court order, 150 were for administrative offenses, 42 occurred in flagrant cases, and 21 were linked to micro-trafficking.
The figures reflect a broad enforcement push that combined preventive patrols, targeted operations, and traffic control measures in different parts of the country.
Searches, Seizures, and Recoveries
Police also carried out 88 search operations during the same period. Those actions led to the seizure of 14 firearms and 87 rounds of ammunition, along with one stolen or reported-missing vehicle and one head of livestock.
Authorities additionally confiscated B/.1,725 in cash, one package of drugs, 296 small tubes containing white powder, and 28 small bags with dried plant material, among other substances. The seizures point to continued police pressure on drug distribution and other street-level criminal activity.
Traffic Enforcement Across the Country
On the roads, transit officers issued 2,555 citations for different violations. The most common infractions were speeding, with 360 tickets, followed by 152 for improper lights, 74 for expired licenses, 70 for drunk driving, 36 for alcohol consumption detected on breath, and 23 for using a cellphone while driving.
Those numbers show that traffic enforcement remained a major part of the weekend operation, especially around behaviors that increase the risk of collisions and serious injuries.
