Panama’s Science March Marks a Decade of Public Outreach at Biomuseo

What Happened

The Biomuseo on Amador Causeway became a gathering point for scientists, students and families during the 10th March for Science in Panama, an event centered on the role of science in the country’s development. The day brought together interactive exhibits, educational art installations, talks and public activities designed to make scientific knowledge more accessible.

Held under the slogan “Science as the sustainable engine of the country: 10 years of the March for Science in Panama,” the event was organized by Fundación Ciencia en Panamá with support from the National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation, or Senacyt.

A Day of Science and Public Participation

From early in the morning, the Biomuseo filled with visitors of all ages. Children, young people and adults moved through hands-on stations and demonstrations that connected science with everyday life. The mix of educational content and artistic expression became one of the most visible features of the day, reinforcing the event’s focus on curiosity and learning.

Researchers and organizers used the occasion to highlight how science can be communicated beyond classrooms and laboratories. The format of the gathering reflected a broader effort to bring evidence-based knowledge into public spaces and make it part of everyday conversation.

Why It Matters

The March for Science began as a movement in the United States and has since expanded internationally. In Panama, it has grown into a recurring platform for science outreach and for promoting the use of evidence in public decision-making.

This year’s edition underscored that message clearly: science is not a separate field reserved for specialists, but a practical tool for social, economic and environmental development. By placing researchers and citizens in the same space, the event aimed to strengthen public understanding of the value of research, education and innovation.

A Growing Space for Scientific Outreach

The 10th edition also reflected the consolidation of the march as a visible part of Panama’s science communication landscape. With support from institutions tied to research and innovation, the event continues to serve as a bridge between the scientific community and the wider public.

In a country facing challenges that cut across health, environment and development, the message of the day was direct: investing attention in science is also investing in Panama’s future.
