What Happened
A power failure interrupted electricity service late Wednesday night in several areas of Panama City, leaving multiple neighborhoods without supply after 9:00 p.m.
The outage affected Vía Argentina, Don Bosco, Brisas del Golf, Villa Lucre, Los Pueblos, Campo Lindbergh, Carrasquilla and Vía España, among other points in the capital.
Utility Response
ENSA, the electricity distributor serving part of the capital, confirmed that several sectors in its concession area were without power. The company said its team was coordinating with the National Dispatch Center to restore service gradually and as quickly as possible.
ENSA also indicated that the interruption was linked to a load-shedding scheme activated by the national electricity system.
Why It Matters
Outages in central and densely populated areas of Panama City can disrupt traffic, businesses, homes and evening activities across the capital. Neighborhoods such as Vía España and Vía Argentina are among the city’s busiest corridors, while residential zones like Don Bosco, Villa Lucre and Brisas del Golf house thousands of residents who rely on stable service for daily routines.
The coordination between the distributor and the National Dispatch Center highlights how interconnected the country’s electricity system is, especially in the capital area. When a load-shedding protocol is triggered, service can be interrupted in multiple sectors at once as the grid is balanced.
Current Situation
Authorities were investigating the cause of the failure as crews worked to restore electricity across the affected neighborhoods. The interruption was reported as continuing into the night while restoration efforts were underway.
