Colón, Oeste, Chiriquí and Bocas bolster rosters ahead of semifinal baseball push

What Happened

The four teams that reached the semifinal round of the 2026 National Major Baseball Championship made their reinforcement selections as they prepare for the next stage of the race for the title.

Colón used the first pick to add catcher Jean Carrillo, who arrives from Darién. The Correcaminos are counting on Carrillo to strengthen defense behind the plate and add depth at a position that can be decisive in a short playoff series.

Panama Oeste followed with the second choice, selecting left-handed pitcher Davis Romero from Coclé. The move gives Oeste another experienced arm for a matchup that could hinge on pitching depth and late-inning stability.

Chiriquí made the third selection and brought in right-hander Darío Agrazal, also from Coclé. The province is betting on Agrazal’s experience and command to help control games in a series that will be played under pressure from the opening pitch.

Bocas del Toro closed the reinforcement round by picking right-handed pitcher Enrique Saldaña from the Metropolitan region.

Semifinal Matchups

The semifinal round begins Sunday with two best-of-seven series. Panama Oeste faces Chiriquí at Kenny Serracín Stadium, while Colón takes on Bocas del Toro at Calvin Byron Stadium. Both games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

The structure of the series raises the stakes for every roster decision. In a best-of-seven format, clubs need not only frontline talent but also depth, versatility and strong bullpen options to keep pace over a potentially long stretch of games.

Why It Matters

Reinforcement picks are a major part of the semifinal build-up in Panama’s Major Baseball Championship. Teams often use this stage to address weaknesses, add veteran presence and improve matchups before the most important games of the season.

Colón, Panama Oeste, Chiriquí and Bocas del Toro now enter the semifinals with their final additions in place, and the focus shifts to execution on the field. With the title series approaching, every inning will carry added weight as the four provinces compete for a spot in the championship round.
