Colón Returns Home With Chance to Seal Final Berth

What Happened

Colón heads back to the Roberto Mariano Bula with a clear goal: win three straight games and clinch a place in the final without returning to Bocas del Toro. The semifinal series is tied 1-1, and the next three games will be played from Thursday through Saturday.

The Colonense club has been especially strong at home this season. After opening the campaign with losses to Chiriquí and Bocas del Toro, the team won five consecutive games at the Mariano Bula against Chiriquí Occidente, Panamá Metro, Coclé, Panamá Este and Darién before closing the regular season with a narrow loss to Panamá Oeste.

A Familiar Home Advantage

That home stretch helped Colón finish the regular season in fourth place in the Béisbol Mayor standings. In the round of eight, the team also used home-field advantage to eliminate Herrera 3-1 after dropping the opener in Colón.

Now the same stadium could decide whether the club advances. With the series even, Colón needs to protect its home field to avoid a return trip to the Calvin Byron Stadium in Bocas del Toro.

A Tight Semifinal Battle

The semifinal has already delivered drama. The opening game, scheduled for Sunday, was suspended because of rain. The second game, played Monday, went down to the final inning, with Bocas del Toro leading 1-0 and two outs away from victory before Colón mounted a comeback for a 3-1 win.

The second contest was also tense despite the wider final margin. Colón led 2-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning, when a four-run rally turned the game in Bocas del Toro’s favor. The defending champion added three more runs in the eighth and finished with 12 hits.

What Comes Next

Colón’s task is straightforward but demanding: win at least two of the three games to return to Bocas del Toro in front, or sweep the series at home and lock up the final berth in the Mariano Bula. The team’s recent record at home suggests the stadium could once again play a decisive role in the postseason.

For a club that has already shown resilience in the playoffs, the coming days will test whether its home form can carry it one step closer to the championship series.
