Chiriquí edges Panamá Oeste again to seize 2-0 semifinal lead

What Happened

Chiriquí kept control of its semifinal series by beating Panamá Oeste 3-2 on Monday at Kenny Serracín Stadium, moving ahead 2-0 in the 2026 National Major Baseball Championship semifinal.

The game was defined by pitching and timely hitting. With the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Jeffer Patiño delivered the decisive single, bringing home Luis Jordán with the run that separated the two teams.

How Chiriquí Won

Panamá Oeste struck first in the fourth inning, taking advantage of a defensive error that opened the door to two runs. Chiriquí answered in the fifth, when Amador Rojas lined a single and Erasmo Caballero followed with a double to bring the score level.

From there, Chiriquí’s pitching staff protected the comeback. Starter Darío Agrazal worked seven innings and allowed nine hits and two runs, both unearned, while striking out seven and issuing one walk. Left-hander Gilberto Chu then finished the job with two scoreless, hitless innings out of the bullpen.

Carlos Díaz handled the first 4 2/3 innings for Panamá Oeste, giving up five hits and two runs, both unearned, while allowing five walks.

Key Performers

Chiriquí finished with 10 hits, led by Patiño, who went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Luis Jordán added two hits, while Rojas and Caballero each drove in a run.

The win also came one day after veterans Jonathan Saavedra and Carlos Xavier Quiroz reached 800 career hits. Saavedra drew three walks and went hitless in his other at-bats, while Quiroz did not play.

Series Outlook

With a 2-0 lead, Chiriquí has put itself in a strong position in the best-of series and now carries momentum back into the matchup against Panamá Oeste. The results so far have shown a familiar pattern for the Chiricanos: steady pitching, pressure at the plate, and the ability to capitalize when the game tightens late.

For Panamá Oeste, the challenge is clear. The Vaqueros have shown they can create chances, but they will need cleaner defense and more production from the offense if they want to change the direction of the series.
