Chiriquí Forces Winner-Take-All Game 7 in National Baseball Final

What Happened

Chiriquí kept its composure in a decisive playoff moment, defeating Bocas del Toro 5-1 on Thursday to even the 2026 National Major Baseball Championship final at three games apiece. The win pushed the series to a seventh and final game, with the title now set to be decided in Panama City.

Erasmo Caballero opened the scoring with a hit that brought home Jhonny Santos, and Jonathan Saavedra followed with a single to right field that scored Caballero from second base. Chiriquí added another run when Xavier Quiroz crossed the plate after a contact play by Iraj Serrano.

Saavedra struck again in the fifth inning with another RBI single to right, extending the lead to 4-0 and giving Chiriquí firm control of the contest.

Pitching Held the Lead

Right-hander Bryan Cáceres delivered the kind of outing that changes a final. He threw six scoreless innings, allowed eight hits, struck out two and issued three walks, giving Chiriquí a steady foundation while the offense built its lead. Enrique Saldaña took the loss for Bocas del Toro.

Bocas del Toro finally broke through in the top of the seventh, ending a stretch of 15 scoreless innings. Melvin Novia grounded into a double play, but Héctor Rayo still managed to score from third base to trim the deficit.

Chiriquí answered in the eighth with insurance that removed any doubt. Luis Jordan executed a squeeze play to bring in the fifth run and close the door on a Bocas comeback.

What Comes Next

The championship will now be decided Friday, May 1, in Game 7 at Rod Carew Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m. After back-to-back tight battles, both teams head into the finale with everything on the line and no margin for error.

For Chiriquí, Thursday’s victory showed the same late-game sharpness that has defined its run through the series. For Bocas del Toro, the setback means the title remains within reach, but only if it can respond immediately in the last game of the final.
