Bocas del Toro sweeps into Béisbol Mayor semifinals as Chiriquí and Darién level their series

What Happened

Bocas del Toro became the first team to reach the semifinals of the 2026 Campeonato Nacional de Béisbol Mayor after defeating Coclé 10-0 to complete a three-game sweep. The win came in a day that also saw the Chiriquí and Darién series tied, while Colón moved in front in its matchup.

The game was close through five innings, with Bocas del Toro holding only a 1-0 lead. Then the offense broke the contest open in the sixth inning, when the team from the Valle de la Luna scored nine runs to put the result beyond doubt.

Bocas del Toro Closes Out Coclé

Edward Toló led the attack with a 5-for-2 performance, scoring twice and driving in two runs. Héctor Rayo also played a key role, finishing 4-for-1 with three runs batted in. For Coclé, Luis Castillo stood out by going 3-for-2.

On the mound, Didier Vargas earned the victory with seven strong innings. He allowed five hits, struck out seven and issued two walks. Luis Machuca took the loss after working six innings, surrendering nine hits and five runs while striking out six.

Chiriquí and Darién Push Their Series to the Limit

Chiriquí stayed alive by leveling its series against Veraguas at 2-2. After dropping the first two games at home, the Chiriquí squad responded with a 10-0 victory on the road at Estadio Omar Torrijos in Santiago.

Darién produced a similar response in its series against Panamá Oeste. Playing at Estadio de Metetí, the Darién team won 4-2 to tie the matchup at 2-2 and keep its postseason hopes alive.

Colón Takes Control

Colón also moved into a favorable position by defeating Herrera 7-2 at Estadio Claudio Nieto. That result gave Colón a 2-1 lead in the series and set up another important game at the same venue.

With the semifinal picture beginning to take shape, Bocas del Toro has already secured its place in the next round, while the remaining series continue to move toward decisive moments. The tight battles in Chiriquí, Darién and Colón show how quickly the postseason can shift in Panama’s top amateur baseball tournament.
