Panama to Open New Animal Welfare Clinic Hospital in San Miguelito

What Happened

The Minister of the Presidency, Juan Carlos Orillac, inspected the Animal Welfare Clinic Hospital “Más Colas” in Los Andes No. 2, San Miguelito, ahead of its planned inauguration by President José Raúl Mulino.

The facility is being presented as one of the projects recovered by the Mulino administration after delays under the previous government. Once opened, it will expand access to veterinary care for residents of San Miguelito and their pets.

Services and Facilities

The clinic hospital is designed to offer a wide range of services, including outpatient consultations, general medicine, emergency care, hospitalization, surgery, vaccination, laboratory tests, and imaging. Its layout includes a reception area, treatment space, consultation rooms, a laboratory, two operating rooms, a recovery area, ultrasound and X-ray rooms, isolation facilities, food storage, dormitories, a bathing tub, laundry, a dining area, administrative offices, and bathrooms.

The building was constructed by Isobox Inc. at a cost of B/.246,000 and will operate under the administration of the Manchitas Foundation. During the inspection, Orillac toured the installation and reviewed the final steps needed before opening with Susana Mora, president of the Manchitas Foundation, and Zamira Nader, the clinic hospital’s medical director.

Why It Matters

The new facility adds a public-facing animal welfare service in one of Panama’s most populous districts. For families, the clinic hospital could provide a lower-barrier option for veterinary attention, especially for urgent care and routine preventive services.

Beyond pet health, the project also reflects a broader public policy focus on animal welfare infrastructure in Panama. By centralizing services such as surgery, imaging, and hospitalization in one site, the clinic hospital is expected to improve access to care and support local animal protection efforts.

Residents of San Miguelito are expected to begin benefiting from the facility in the coming days, marking a new addition to the district’s social and health-related services.
