Police operations in Chiriquí net arrests tied to drugs and outstanding warrants

What Happened

Police operations in Chiriquí Province led to multiple arrests as part of the Firmness 2026 Plan, with officers carrying out actions aimed at disrupting microtrafficking networks and locating people wanted by the justice system. The efforts were conducted by the National Police in coordination with the Public Ministry.

Operation Nomad, carried out during March, focused on identifying, monitoring and dismantling people involved in the sale of illicit substances in several districts across the province. Police said 14 cases were brought before the courts, resulting in the arrest of 13 people allegedly linked to drug-related activity. Many of those detained had prior criminal records, according to police.

Additional Enforcement in Chiriquí

A separate police action, Operation Filax, was also executed in Chiriquí under the same security plan. Officers served 17 search warrants in the districts of David, Alanje, Boquerón, Boquete and Dolega, leading to the arrest of 22 people.

Those detained were wanted by judicial authorities for a range of alleged offenses, including extortion, fraud, crimes against sexual freedom and integrity, offenses against collective security, crimes against the economic order, crimes against life and personal integrity linked to gender violence, and offenses related to family legal order and civil status, including alimony and domestic violence.

Drugs and Public Security

During the Filax operation, one person was also apprehended in connection with alleged illicit substances, including dried herbs and a pipe with residue. Police presented the actions as part of an ongoing push to strengthen public safety and reduce crime in the province.

Chiriquí is one of Panama’s most important provinces, with David serving as a major urban and commercial center. Police operations there often have broad significance because the province includes both densely populated areas and border-adjacent routes that authorities monitor closely for criminal activity.

What It Means

The latest arrests show how Panamanian authorities are using coordinated police and prosecutorial operations to target both street-level drug distribution and people with active warrants. The Firmness 2026 Plan remains a central security strategy, with police emphasizing coordination with prosecutors to strengthen public order and peaceful coexistence.

For residents of Chiriquí, the operations signal continued enforcement pressure in neighborhoods and districts where police believe criminal activity has taken root. They also reflect a broader national effort to pursue repeat offenders and disrupt offenses ranging from drug sales to domestic violence and financial crimes.
