What Happened

The plaza of Mercado San Felipe Neri will host a BBQ Challenge on Sunday, 29 March starting at 10:00 a.m. The family-friendly event runs until 6:00 p.m., features live music, prizes and a gastronomic promenade, and offers free entry for attendees.

Event Details

Organizers announced sales of Puerca Parrillera at three price points: B/.10, B/.15 and B/.23. Each Puerca Parrillera portion will include chicken, chuleta, chorizos and either entraña or costillón. In addition to grilled meats, there will be a special sale of fresh vegetables from B/.1 and fritangas available in the fondas area for breakfast.

The event will include 1,000 free tastings of hamburgers and chicken, and a culinary walkway where vendors will display food offers. Attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and umbrellas to enjoy the outdoor activities.

Competition and Participation

The BBQ Challenge will bring together 10 teams of five adults each to compete in the asado meeting. People interested in registering or reviewing the competition rules can visit the official registration page: https://bbq.mupa.gob.pa/.

What This Means

The event is positioned as a community and gastronomic draw for the Mercado San Felipe Neri area, combining competitive grilling with market sales of fresh produce and traditional street food. Free entry and family-oriented programming aim to attract residents and visitors to the market throughout the day, supporting local vendors and showcasing Panamanian food culture.

With live music, prizes and multiple food offerings, the BBQ Challenge provides both entertainment and an opportunity for small sellers at the market to reach new customers during the weekend event.
