## What Happened

The ceasefire has temporarily stopped direct hostilities between US and Iranian forces after a sharp escalation that raised fears of a broader Middle East war. The agreement has brought a fragile calm, yet it has not resolved the strategic disputes that drove the fighting in the first place.

Tensions remain especially high around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important shipping lanes, where any renewed confrontation could quickly disrupt global energy flows and maritime trade. In parallel, fighting and airstrikes connected to the conflict have also affected Lebanon, adding another layer of instability to an already volatile region.
