# Panama Stock Market Trading Volume Surges 69.6% Through July

Panama’s securities market is experiencing one of its strongest years on record, with the Bolsa Latinoamericana de Valores (Latinex) reporting a 69.6% jump in trading volume through July 2026, alongside a landmark alliance with Euroclear Bank and the Luxembourg Stock Exchange that will give Panamanian issuers direct access to international markets.

## What Happened

According to figures released during Latinex’s Investor Forum in Panama City, total negotiated volume reached $6,883 million by the close of July 2026, compared with the same period in 2025. The number of transactions climbed 15.1% to 10,111 operations. The growth was driven primarily by the primary market, which rose 70.8%, and the secondary market, which surged 83.2%.

The momentum continued into August. Between January and August, Latinex reported cumulative negotiated volume of $7,921 million, up 62.1% year-on-year, with more than 11,600 transactions recorded. Assets under custody reached $49,311 million, which the exchange describes as a signal of greater participation and confidence in the Panamanian securities platform.

Latinex also announced a new alliance with Euroclear Bank and the Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE). The agreement will allow issuers listed in Panama to complement their local presence with admission to trading on the international market in Luxembourg, strengthening their profile before global investors.

Olga Cantillo, executive president and CEO of Latinex, said the figures reflect the evolution of the Panamanian market and growing participation from both issuers and investors. “The trend in recent years has been a market that keeps evolving, with growth and inclusion,” Cantillo said in an interview with La Prensa on the sidelines of the forum, which gathered brokers, financiers, bankers, capital markets analysts, and international and local banks.

## Background

Latinex currently counts more than 300 issuers, of which 30 are foreign companies hailing not only from Latin America but also from Europe and the United States. Cantillo noted that this diversity broadens the range of investment opportunities available to investors on the local platform.

The internationalization of Latinex began more than a decade ago with regional integration and the link to Euroclear Bank, the Brussels-based central securities depository that connects investors worldwide to financial markets. “We have evolved by opening our borders,” Cantillo explained, noting that this infrastructure has allowed international investors to access issuances listed in Panama.

Currently, more than $8,300 million in Panamanian securities are eligible through the Euroclear link. The connection, first established in 2014 with government and quasi-government instruments, was expanded in 2024 to include corporate, multilateral, and supranational issuances. The new Luxembourg agreement builds on that foundation.

“To the connectivity we already offer through Euroclear, we now add the possibility for our issuers to complement their listing on Latinex with admission to trading on the Luxembourg Stock Exchange, further strengthening their international presence and profile,” Cantillo said. She added that the market’s development has been a joint effort: “The market has evolved, and not only at the hands of Latinex, because we promote Panama together with the actors of the Panamanian market.”

## What This Means for Panama

The figures reinforce Panama’s position as Central America’s leading financial center, with Panama City serving as the hub of the country’s capital markets. Strong growth in both primary issuances and secondary trading suggests that companies are raising capital locally at a robust pace, while investors are actively buying and reselling instruments on the exchange.

The Luxembourg alliance carries particular significance for Panamanian issuers. Dual admission to LuxSE, one of Europe’s leading listing venues, gives local companies a pathway to global visibility and potentially a broader investor base, without abandoning their home listing.

Looking ahead, Latinex has set its sights on broadening market participation. Cantillo said the goal is to “democratize the market with more investors who can invest as is done in developed markets,” and to incorporate small and medium-sized enterprises into the bourse’s ecosystem. If successful, that push could deepen Panama’s capital markets and give smaller companies an alternative source of financing beyond traditional bank credit.
