# Panama readies nationwide volunteer day with opening event in Clayton

## What Happened

Panama will mark a new edition of Día de las Buenas Acciones this Sunday, April 12, with volunteer activities taking place across the country. The nationwide effort brings together social organizations, businesses and citizens in community service projects aimed at encouraging participation and solidarity.

The initiative reaches its 11th local edition and is coordinated by the JUPÁ Jewish-Panamanian Foundation, B’nai B’rith Panama and Voluntarios de Panamá. In the days leading up to the main event, different groups have already carried out acts of support as part of the broader schedule connected to the campaign.

## Opening Ceremony in Clayton

The opening ceremony is set for Ciudad del Saber in Clayton at 10:00 a.m. As part of the kickoff, the event will recognize the manual street-sweeping and cleaning workers of the Urban and Household Sanitation Authority, known as the “Hormiguitas,” for their work maintaining public spaces.

That recognition underscores one of the campaign’s central themes: highlighting everyday community contributions while encouraging more people to take part in volunteer service.

## Why It Matters

Organizers say the day is designed to promote citizen participation and show the reach of volunteering in different communities. The campaign is part of a global movement that is carried out simultaneously in several countries, giving Panama a place within a broader network of social action.

This year’s edition is being promoted under the slogan “Haciendo el bien, inspiras,” a message aimed at drawing more people into social initiatives and reinforcing the idea that small actions can have a wider impact.

## Regional Recognition

Panama was also named by the regional committee as the bearer of the Day of Good Deeds flag for Latin America, a distinction that reflects the country’s participation in the movement. The flag has traveled through different provinces as part of community activities linked to the campaign.

More than 295 nonprofit organizations are included on the digital platform available for people who want to volunteer in the scheduled activities. The network gives residents a way to connect with projects in different parts of the country and take part in local service efforts.

With activities planned throughout Panama, the day combines recognition, volunteer work and public engagement in one coordinated national effort.
