May 15 is the deadline to enter Panama’s Regional Tax Lottery

What Happened

Taxpayers in Panama have until May 15 to drop off their envelopes and take part in the Regional Fiscal Lottery, which will award prizes of up to B/.10,000 in each of the country’s four regions. The new format groups the 10 provinces into regional zones and spreads the draws across four different dates in May 2026.

The first draw, for Region 1 covering Panama province, is scheduled for May 19. Region 2, which includes Panama Oeste, Colón and Darién, will follow on May 21. Region 3, made up of Bocas del Toro, Chiriquí and Veraguas, will be drawn on May 26, while Region 4, covering Herrera, Los Santos and Coclé, will close the schedule on May 28.

How the Prizes Are Distributed

Each region will award 25 prizes for a total of B/.110,000 per region. The prize structure includes five awards of B/.10,000, ten awards of B/.5,000 and ten awards of B/.1,000. Across the four regions, the lottery is designed to spread the winnings across the country rather than concentrate them in a single national draw.

To qualify, each envelope must contain at least five fiscal invoices or equivalent documents, all issued in the name of the participant. A person cannot win more than once in the same draw, reinforcing the one-entry, one-win structure for each regional selection.

Envelope Rules and Entry Requirements

The envelope itself must meet strict formatting rules. It must be letter size or smaller, white in color — including air-mail envelopes — or manila. Envelopes in any other color or larger than the allowed size are not accepted.

Only personal information may appear on the outside of the envelope. That includes the participant’s full name, personal ID number, contact phone number, email address and residential address. Decorative items such as stamps, drawings, images, stickers, labels or any other embellishments are prohibited.

Envelopes that do not follow these requirements are automatically disqualified. The rules are meant to standardize submissions and make the regional draws easier to manage across all participating provinces.

Why It Matters

The Regional Fiscal Lottery is part of Panama’s broader effort to encourage the use of fiscal invoices and support tax compliance. By tying prizes to receipts and dividing participation by region, the program gives people in different parts of the country a chance to compete under the same format while keeping the competition geographically balanced.
