Claude Adds Computer Control to Tackle Tasks Across Apps

What Happened

Anthropic has announced a new capability for its artificial intelligence model Claude that allows it to interact directly with a user’s computer interface to complete complex tasks. The feature, called Computer Use, is now integrated into Claude Cowork and Claude Code.

According to the company, the tool is designed for situations where Claude does not have a specific connector for an application such as Slack or Google Calendar. In those cases, the AI can now “observe” the screen, move the cursor, click buttons and type text in order to navigate on its own.

How It Works

Anthropic says the system can open files, use a web browser and run development tools automatically, without requiring prior setup. The goal is to let Claude carry out more complicated digital tasks even when direct app integrations are unavailable.

This expands the practical use of the model beyond text generation and into broader computer-based assistance. By operating through the interface itself, the AI can work across different programs in a way that resembles a human user following on-screen prompts.

Why It Matters

The update reflects a growing push in the artificial intelligence industry to build systems that can do more than answer questions. Tools that interact with software directly may help users save time on repetitive or multi-step work, especially in environments where several apps and browser tabs are involved.

At the same time, features like Computer Use may raise questions about reliability, privacy and control, since the model is capable of taking actions inside a user’s computer environment. Anthropic’s announcement highlights the technical progress behind this type of automation, but it also underscores why careful use will matter as these tools become more powerful.

Background

Claude is one of Anthropic’s flagship AI products and is available in different versions, including Claude Cowork and Claude Code. The new feature appears aimed at making the model more useful in both workplace and development settings, where access to multiple tools and applications is often necessary.

For users, the development suggests that AI assistants are moving closer to becoming active digital operators rather than passive chatbots. That shift could change how people handle routine tasks on a computer, especially if the feature proves stable and easy to use.
